"Glamorous camping": tent, butler, $595 a night

The number of visits to U.S. national parks is declining, but "glamping" — glamorous camping — is on the rise in North America after gaining popularity in Africa and England, where luxury tents come with Persian rugs and electricity to power blow dryers. Resorts such as Paws Up that expand on the dude-ranch concept are reporting increased bookings, another sign that luxury travel remains one of the strongest and fastest-growing segments of the tourism industry.

Camping in River Falls’ Hoffman Park' Wisconsin

For Sally Jacobson and her husband, Marvin, it’s camping. “We’ve tried timeshare, but it was a bummer,” Sally said. “People are more friendly when you camp than when you motel-it or condo-it. They come out and talk to each other, We come to this particular campground because it is neat, it is clean, it is quiet, it is safe, it is pet-friendly and the people who come here pick up after their pets,” Sally said. “This is the most reasonable campsite you can find and the set up is great.”

Reading Festival - Important Camping Info

It has been a difficult month for the Festival Republic crew onsite at Reading. When the site build started on July 25th, a fair amount of the site was under water from the flooding in the Berkshire area. Thanks to the hard work of all on site and massive support from Reading Borough Council and the Environment Agency, we are pleased to say that the southern leg of the greatest festival in the world will happen.

Camping without crowds in Ontario's north

On a long weekend in summer, Ontario's famed Algonquin Provincial Park hosts about 25,000 campers -- about the same number as Mississagi Provincial Park receives all year. The difference is largely a matter of longitude. The further north you travel, the fewer people you're likely to run into. If you are planning a camping trip this year, here's a list of Northern Ontario's family friendly provincial parks.

Hampshire has been named the camping capital of the UK

"It has delightful landscapes, market towns, cathedral cities, historic buildings, coastal scenery, country parks and the New Forest - so many things for people to do, I think that's why it's proving to be a popular place to visit. Majestic broadleaf forest, attractive lowland heath and chocolate box villages combine with easy access to the coast to make Hampshire a popular choice with campers. Hampshire is great for camping because it's a beautiful area and it has a lot of campsites.

Camping in the Sierra Nevada Mountains

We sat on folding chairs around the crackling fire, sipping beer, while our cook prepared a dinner of surprising delicacy. Surprising, because in the heart of the John Muir Wilderness, 10,000 feet above sea level, this bespectacled man had conjured a tasty, three-course meal, capped by a freshly baked pineapple upside-down cake and kettle-brewed coffee filtered through a tube sock.

Himatangi Beach camping ground was named the top camping ground in new zealand

Foxton Estuary has been named the top bird- watching spot. That's the place to go for a true dinkum Kiwi holiday with hosts who know how to do things properly. And, of course, the rivers inland here and over in Pahiatua and Dannevirke are some of the best trout fishing rivers in the country. Camping, bird watching, fishing are all natural attributes we could use to build a mini tourism income. But it depends on the will to act and the will to fight to keep the rivers and streams as clean as possible.

Yosemite - Sleeping in a bag or in a hotel bed?

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK — A creature of habit, Brian Ouzounian joins a swallow-like migration each summer to this park's glacier-cleaved valley. Ouzounian has camped in Yosemite Valley in nearly every one of his 57 years, setting down stakes a week at a time with family and friends at the panoramic junction of the Merced River and Tenaya Creek. He lives for those days and the memories of them. Morning hikes to the valley rim. Inner-tube afternoons on the river. Nights in a sleeping bag, under the stars. First light striking Glacier Point. Sizzling bacon, chirping birds and the burbling river play a symphony to his soul.

Camping Catalina: Going for the geocache

Newbies to the island, we wanted to remain within walking distance of the main drag and get to know Avalon. For seven people on a budget, that meant staying at the only Catalina Island campground that's within the city's 2 square miles: Hermit Gulch. It's a bit more civilized than Catalina's four other campgrounds, which include — at the opposite end of the spectrum and the opposite end of the 21-mile island — isolated Parson's Landing, a hike-in primitive site with no fresh water. Hermit Gulch, on the contrary, is "close to Avalon, with hot showers and flush toilets, a microwave, vending machines, shuttle," said amiable ranger Waylon Graham.

A Lesson in Camping Etiquette From the Stringband Jamboree

To be fair, the Jamboree itself wasn't bad. By the time we cut through the traffic and filled our bellies, we managed to see three artists, and two of them were really good. The first, Rachel Ries, is who we were most excited about. Her smooth, somewhat airy vocals don't sound unlike many other airy-voiced chanteuses, but her lyrics are lovely enough to set her apart, and sweet enough to aptly complement a chilly evening in a dark field upstate. (Ok if we call it that?)
