Cleveland forest fees for camping may rise

In separate actions yesterday, the U.S. Forest Service lifted most of the access restrictions in place since the October wildfires and officials said campground fees were not covering the cost of maintaining the facilities.

“Opening up the forest again is a great thing, especially since there has been some rainfall so it should be beginning to restore itself,” said Richard Miller, chairman of the San Diego chapter of the Sierra Club.

Summer camps are amazing places for children

Summer camps are amazing places for children to learn new skills and discover their special talents. Here are a few tips on selecting the right camp for your children:

• Check out www.campparents.org for a listing of hundreds of possible camps.
• For your peace of mind, find an ACA accredited camp. This certification means the camp has been reviewed for over 300 standards to make sure the camp is safe and provides the highest quality camping experience for your child.
• Younger children may not understand what it means to "go to camp". See if you can visit a camp in progress so they understand what it means to be away from you while swimming, playing goofy games and idolizing their wacky counselor.
• For a child's first camp experience, consider a "traditional" camp that offers a variety of activities rather than focusing on computers or performing arts. This experience gives your child a broader camping experience.

New RV and camping search site for vacationers and travelers that uses Google maps

Are you tired of those huge five pound RV and camping directories? Tired of web sites that lack content? Well, MapRvs is the newest in internet RV site searches and will soon make the others look obsolete. It is a futuristic, complete and accurate site that is like no other.

Let's say you are looking for RV and camping sites outside of Phoenix, AZ. You simply go to the map of the United States, click a few times in the Phoenix area, and, voila, up pops little green dots with all the locations. As you click on each, a bubble appears with information on it. Further in, one can get directions to the site from anywhere, current weather conditions and contact information. Also, one can search for points of interest and other RV related establishments nearby.

Camping holidays

Camping holidays are a popular option for the environment- and budget-conscious holidaymaker and give families a chance to get close to nature and really explore the outdoors.

Many campgrounds offer the option of tenting, mobile homes or chalet accommodation, as well as activities and children's clubs so holidaymakers can enjoy some home comforts while having a break from city life.

France is a perennial favourite for camping holidays, being easily accessible with thousands of well-equipped campsites. The Vendee region, Gascony, the Dordogne and Brittany are all fantastic destinations for a camping holiday.

Camping at Jalama Beach near Santa Barbara

From a map, Jalama Beach County Park looks like one of the most isolated beach campgrounds in Southern California. The beach hugs a crescent-shaped coastline between Point Conception and Point Arguello, just south of Vandenberg Air Force Base.

No multimillion-dollar mansions or rickety piers mar the coastline for miles in either direction. Just the ocean lapping at the raw land, as it has for millions of years.

Despite its remote locale, Jalama Beach is not the rough, isolated park I expected to find when I drove a winding, two-lane country road to the sand-swept campground in February. A dozen relatives and I arrived a few hours before sunset.

France Remains the Original Camping Destination

France is still the "original camping destination" for Brits, according to one industry expert.

Tour operator Europcamp made the claim, explaining that France remains popular as it is easily accessible for Brits.

Ruth Start, Eurocamp head of sales and marketing, said: "France remains a popular choice with Eurocamp customers as it is easily accessible from the UK and remains a camping legacy in terms of being the original camping destination for Brits."
