With Memorial Day weekend at hand, Maine's parks are gearing up for a busy camping season.
The Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands says it has taken 500 more reservations at the 12 state-run campgrounds than at this time a year ago.
Conservation Commissioner Patrick McGowan says the bureau expects plenty of visitors as Mainers take advantage of the 47 state parks and historic sites that are short drives from most of the state's population centers.
