McAllen park to offer camping, fishing

A McAllen park will be upgraded to feature a fishing pond and camping, among other amenities.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission awarded a $1.6 million grant to the City of McAllen to expand and improve Firemen's Park.

The park is located on the northeast corner of Business 83 and and Col. Rowe Boulevard.

The proposed project will add 10.8 acres of park land as well as provide the first fishing and camping venues inside city limits.

Public records show that Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission made the funding decision at their regular meeting on Thursday, November 06, 2008 in Austin.
